CLOSED Prohibition Tasting Bar

Date Visited: July 18 2014
Address: 1269 Hamilton St Vancouver, BC
Type of Restaurant: American, Tapas, Bar
Price Range: $$
Ambiance (out of five): 4/5 – very relaxed and chill atmosphere
Overall: 7.5/10
(1-4: will never come back, 5: pass (I’m okay with a tinier morsel), 6: acceptable, 7: okay, 8: good, 9: Wow! Please enlarge my morsel. 10: Perfection. I could eat a morsel of this every day!)
Will come back? If it was for happy hour then yes, or else, probably not
What I ate:
Moonshine Sour (moonshine, walnut bitters, citrus, whites)
  • 8/10
  • The name describes it perfectly – SOUR but not overly sour (because I like sour things)
  • The sour is balanced with the whites and sweetness
  • There is a bitter aftertaste but I surprisingly enjoyed it
  • Nice balance
Duck Wings (1lb, Hot, lemon pepper or BBQ)
  • 7.5/10
  • Some were drier than others – lacked consistency
  • We ordered the hot duck wings, unfortunately they weren’t as spicy as I wanted
  • The outside was nice and flavourful but the meat inside lacked savouriness
Pretzel Knots (Ale Cheese, Dijon, Pickles)
  • 7/10
  • The pretzel was a good size (portion) but overly dense
  • The texture of the pretzel wasn’t as soft as I would have preferred
  • I preferred the ale cheese dip over the Dijon
  • The cheese dip really was the star of this dish, it added a nice savouriness to the dish
Summary: Nice place to hang out with a drink and some tapas. But the tapas aren’t the best you will find in the city. The variety of drinks is also lacking compared to other bars and restaurants
