Type of Restaurant: Vietnamese

Price Range: $

Ambiance (out of five): 4/5 – relaxed, casual place to eat for a sit down meal

Setting/Design: Chic, but not stuck up

Recommended: Banh Mi

Overall: 8/10

(1-4: will never come back, 5: pass (I’m okay with a tinier morsel), 6: acceptable, 7: okay, 8: good, 9: Wow! Please enlarge my morsel. 10: Perfection. I could eat a morsel of this every day!)

Will come back? Yes, I was actually quite surprised with the food. Judging from the décor and area, I thought it wouldn’t be very authentic. But never judge a book by its cover

What I ate:

House special Baoguette – 5.25 (Vietnamese Hams, Cold Cuts Sub)

  • 8/10
  • Came warm which was very much appreciated (I hate it when restaurants do not toast their bread)
  • There was a good amount of filling and the size of the baoguette was reasonable for the price and the area
  • The “mayonnaise” gave it a nice creamy texture
  • I was at first skeptical of the raw onions inside but luckily the flavour of it wasn’t very strong, yet not so non-existent that it didn’t contribute to the flavour of the sandwich
  • The marinated carrots were a nice touch
  • Good amount of cold cut ham
  • The bread was nice and airy and crispy on the outside – nice chew

Pho Dac Biet – 8.50 (Special beef noodle soup with rare beef, brisket, beef balls and tripe

  • 8/10
  • The soup base was nice and savoury with a good amount of depth to it
  • The presentation was more refined than most Vietnamese restaurants
  • There was a good amount of beef, it felt like an everlasting supply, 2 beef balls, some brisket and bits of tripe
  • Noodles were disappointing – they were stuck together and very hard to split apart without making a mess
  • They were a tad over cooked but still enjoyable

Summary: Decent eats, nice atmosphere
