Date Visited: August 22 2014

Address: 8030 Granville St Vancouver, BC

Type of Restaurant: Desserts/ Ice cream

Price Range: $

Ambiance (out of five): 4/5 – the waitress was very friendly, wanted to know how everything was and if there were any questions. When asked of the flavours she would explain them very nicely

Recommended: Green Tea Ice Cream, Black Sesame and Walnut Paste

Overall: 8.5/10

(1-4: will never come back, 5: pass (I’m okay with a tinier morsel), 6: acceptable, 7: okay, 8: good, 9: Wow! Please enlarge my morsel. 10: Perfection. I could eat a morsel of this every day!)

Will come back? Yes, even though it is a tad expensive for ice cream, you can’t get such creamy and rich ice cream anywhere else

What I ate:

Matcha green tea Ice cream

  • 8.5/10
  • This green tea ice cream is on the more bitter side (the server told us that the green tea and Chocolate flavour are more bitter than the rest ) but I enjoyed it
  • There is a strong matcha flavour
  • Very creamy and rich but the bitterness of the matcha is able to balance it off
  • If you prefer bitter and just the perfect amount of sweetness ice cream then this is the one for you
  • The waffle cone on the bottom isn’t too sweet and is crispy on the sides

Black Sesame and Walnut taste

  • 8.5/10
  • Very thick and rich
  • The sesame flavour is strong and the walnuts give it a good texture
  • Can’t get anything else like this in Vancouver
  • The balance between the textures and the sweetness is pretty good

Glutinous Rice Balls with Peanuts and Sesame Seeds

  • 8/10
  • We were told by the server that they are made by hand on order so it took a little longer than the rest to arrive
  • It gave a nice chew and the sugar peanut sesame seed coating wasn’t too sweet
  • But it was nothing special, nothing I would order again

Durian Ice Cream

  • I was curious about the durian ice cream because I’ve never actually tasted durian before
  • I’ve heard so much about how good the durian ice cream is so I asked them for a small spoonful of it, and they ended up giving us a small cup full on the house
  • If you are a durian lover you will definitely like this ice cream
  • The texture was perfect, flavours amazing
  • It was creamy and luscious and full of durian umaminess, unfortunately, for a first timer I didn’t enjoy it that much – I’ve learned that durian’s not my thing

Summary: Good place for desserts, open late, I would come back for the matcha ice cream. They also come in pints for you to buy 11.99 per pint

Update Latest Visit August 27 2014:

Mango Ice Cream:

  • 8/10
  • They warned me that the mango flavour wouldn’t be as strong because mangoes were reaching the end of the season
  • The taste of the mango was very fresh but not strong enough
  • Not too sweet either
  • Tasted like a green or sour mango
  • Very refreshing taste with creaminess of the ice cream
