Sushi Hoon

Date Visited: August 27 2014
Address: 7974 Granville St  Vancouver, BC
Type of Restaurant: Japanese, Fusion
Price Range: $$
Ambiance (out of five): 4/5 The Korean owners are very friendly and the décor is not overwhelming or on the other side of the spectrum dirty. The only problem I had was the amount of fruit flies in the restaurant hovering around the food.
Recommended:
Overall: 7.5/10
(1-4: will never come back, 5: pass (I’m okay with a tinier morsel), 6: acceptable, 7: okay, 8: good, 9: Wow! Please enlarge my morsel. 10: Perfection. I could eat a morsel of this every day!)
Will come back? No
What I ate:

Spicy Chopped Scallop Roll
  • 7/10
  • The sauce on the top made the roll spicy but didn’t provide much texturally and visually
  • The chopped scallop flavour was hidden beneath the sauce so I couldn’t really taste it

Prawn tempura (5 pieces)
  • 7/10
  • Batter was really light and crispy but I prefer heavier batters
  • Prawn had a nice fresh taste and had a nice bite to it

Big Boss Roll – prawn tempura, cucumber, crab meat, avocado with torched tuna, yam flakes
  • 7.5/10
  • The torched tuna tasted very nice and went well with the rest of the roll
  • Couldn’t taste much of the prawn
  • The yam flakes added a nice crunch on the top
  • And the spicy sauce on the top had some sour and sweet flavours to it as well
Summary: Very pretty presentation, food was mediocre, service was great!
