(1-4: will never come back, 5: pass (I’m okay with a tinier morsel), 6: acceptable, 7: okay, 8: good, 9: Wow! Please enlarge my morsel. 10: Perfection. I could eat a morsel of this every day!)
Will come back? No
What I ate:
Inihaw na Pampano/ grilled pompano – grilled pompano (flat fish) seasoned with sea salt and served with radish salad
  • 6.5/10
  • The fish was luckily not overcooked
  • It was under seasoned and lacked flavour
  • The outside was not grilled to crispy perfection which was disappointing
Crispy Pata (small) – deep fried pork hock
  • 8/10
  • Definitely the highlight of the meal
  • The skin was so crispy and fragrant
  • It’s very different from the usual crispy pork from Cantonese restaurants, it’s not a hard crunchy but a more textured crunchy
  • The meat though was on the drier side which was disappointing
  • I wish that there was more juice to the meat
  • The collagen/ fatty bits were a treat to eat
Lunch Combo 1 BBQ pork and 1 insal Chicken Skewer with rice and salad
  • 7/10
  • The BBQ pork was again under seasoned and lacked smokiness
  • Insal chicken skewer was nothing special, just tasted like meat on a stick
Lumpia Shanghai (small) – spring rolls filled with prok and shrimp served with garlic-vinegar or sweet chili dipping sauce
  • 6/10
  • The meat inside of the spring roll was very compact unlike Chinese spring rolls which are usually more separated
  • The skin on the outside skin was crispy but was very hard to cut
  • I prefer Chinese spring rolls over these ones
Turon with Langkasuy ice cream – deep fried cavendish banana spring roll, served with homemade jackfruit and cashew ice cream
  • 6.5/10
  • the banana spring roll lacked banana flavour and fragrance, there wasn’t enough banana in the spring roll
  • the cashew and jackfruit ice cream tasted like vanilla ice cream with cashews in it – I wished they had made more effort into incorporating it together
  • warning jackfruit may taste a bit like durian, there are real chunks of jackfruit in this ice cream
  • Nothing special
Summary: There’s not much Filipino food in Vancouver so having something different for a change is quite nice. You must try the crispy pata
