Candia Tavern

Date Visited: November 6 2014 Address: 4510 W 10th Ave Vancouver, BC Website: http://candiataverna.com/ Type of Restaurant: Greek, Pizza, Dessert Price Range: $$ Ambiance (out of five)/Setting/Design/service: The ambiance 4/5 – was very comfortable. There weren’t many people there so the sound level was low. The design of the place was so quaint. We screamed with aw when we walked in. The service was friendly and enjoyable. Overall: 6.75/10 (1-4: will never come back, 5: pass (I’m okay with a tinier morsel), 6: acceptable, 7: okay, 8: good, 9: Wow! Please enlarge my morsel. 10: Perfection. I could eat a morsel of this every day!) Will come back? Even with the UBC FoodSoc Discount I wouldn’t What I ate: We came for the early bird specials 20141105_162908 20141105_163003 20141105_163021 20141105_164040 Chicken Thigh served with Greek salad, rice, roasted potatoes, tzatziki and garlic toast
  • 7.5/10
  • The chicken thigh was overly charred on the outside but the chicken was nice and moist
  • The rice was nice and fluffy and had some good flavour
  • The Greek salad was average
20141105_163855 Prawn served with Greek salad, rice, roasted potatoes, Tzatziki and garlic toast
  • 7/10
  • The prawns were over grilled and a bit too salty
20141105_164024 Lasagna with meat sauce served with Greek salad, rice, roasted potatoes, Tzatziki and garlic toast
  • 6.5/10
  • The lasagna was burnt and the cheese didn’t “stretch” and it was chewy which was disappointing
  • The pasta itself was overcooked and soggy
  • The lasagna portion was a little small
20141105_163908 Pesto Pizza – with sun dried tomatoes, pine nuts and zucchini
  • 6.5/10
  • The pesto pizza was very creamy but the dough pizza itself was disappointing
  • The crust was soggy and not crispy at all, it was airy and lacked texture
  • The toppings were also lacking
20141105_162944 Hummus
  • 6.5/10
  • Hummus wasn’t creamy and kind of chunky
  • But the bread that came with it was acceptable
20141105_172157 Dessert – Traditional dessert with phyllo pastry wrapped around custard with vanilla ice cream
  • 7/10
  • This dessert came piping hot
  • The custard inside tasted zesty and had a hint of nutmeg flavour
  • The phyllo pastry was crunchy and added a nice texture
  • The vanilla ice cream went nicely with it
Things to Improve on: Textures, flavours Summary: The place is very quaint and the service is lovely. The food is okay and the portions were very filling.
