(1-4: will never come back, 5: pass (I’m okay with a tinier morsel), 6: acceptable, 7: okay, 8: good, 9: Wow! Please enlarge my morsel. 10: Perfection. I could eat a morsel of this every day!)
Will come back? No
What I ate:
Joyce Oysters
Lobster Benny – Butter Poached lobster, tarragon, poached eggs, hollandaise
  • 6/10
  • Could barely even taste the lobster and tarragon
  • The poached eggs were a tad overcooked
  • The hollandaise was not as thick as I would have enjoyed – not as luscious and thick as I would have hopped for and it was under seasoned
  • The biscuit on the bottom was horrible. It couldn’t hold any of the ingredients or soak up any of the hollandaise. It was also dry and extremely crumbly
Pork Belly Benny – Confit belly, pickled carrot, poached eggs, hollandaise
  • 6/10
  • The pork belly was dry
  • Same critiques as the lobster benny
Merchants BLT – house bacon, fried green tomato, shallot mayo, sole food greens salad
  • 5/10
  • The house bacon had an interesting and unenjoyable texture (kind of like chicken)
  • The fried green tomato was soggy and unappealing to look at
  • The sole food green salad helped to balance off the unappealing bread on the bottom
  • The bread soaked up so much oil that when I bit into it, oil busted out
  • An ill executed dish
Things to Improve on: Where do I even start – poaching of eggs, the hollandaise,
Summary: The service was great. The food was horrible. If you can’t do brunch properly how can I expect you to do dinner properly? The quality of the ingredients was good but the execution was really lacking. Avoid for brunch
