What I ate:

– bread served warm = big plus
20150130_172207
Veloute of celeriac and cauliflower, pear, hazelnuts, crisp sage leaves
  • 7/10
  • The soup had a surprisingly strong cauliflower flavour which I enjoyed
  • I wish I could’ve tasted more of the pear so that it balanced out some of the earthy flavours
  • The hazelnuts and crisp sage leaves added a nice crunchiness to it

Endive frisee, fried oysters, bacon and blue cheese
  • 7.5/10
  • The endive frisee lacked a sour dressing to balance out the fried oysters
  • The breading on the fried oysters was not too thick, ratio of breading to oysters was good, not over fried or over greasy
  • The bacon could’ve been utilized better in this dish, either tossed in with the salad or better melded with the oyster
  • Also the blue cheese flavour in the sauce was not strong enough

Alsatian Style onion pie
  • 8/10
  • I enjoyed the sweet onion flavour of the pie
  • The pie crust was acceptable but could have been slightly more buttery, unfortunately the bottom crust was slightly hard to cut
  • The vegetables on top were also nicely seasoned so that it could brighten up the pie

Pot roast breast of Lamb, white bean + garlic puree, seche tomatoes, gremolata jus
  • 8.25/10
  • The breast of lamb was surprisingly moist and juicy – it also contained a fair bit of fat which I thoroughly enjoyed, the flavours were spot on (herbs wrapped inside balanced the flavour of the lamb very well)
  • The white bean and garlic puree was really smooth and accompanied the lamb well

Crisp roast chicken, mashed potato, lemon and herb roasting juices
  • 8/10
  • The crispy roast chicken had really crispy skin – you know it’s going to be good when you scrap your knife against the skin and it makes that crunch sound
  • The chicken was extremely moist and juicy – amazing, maybe some of the best chicken I’ve had at a restaurant in a while
  • The mashed potatoes were okay, could’ve been revamped or at least more luscious
  • The biggest fault though was that it was way over seasoned, if it weren’t for that it would have been almost perfect
  • simplicity at its finest

Apple and cheddar cheese crumble
  • 8.5/10
  • I never thought that I would ever find a pair that went so well together, all I need now is a glass of wine
  • At first, I was suspicious of the pairing but after having a bite, I knew we were destined to be… I mean…
  • The sweetness of the apple and the savouriness of the cheddar cheese felt like 2 long lost lovers that finally get the chance to meet
  • When you first bite into it, you get the crunchiness of the crumble then the sweetness of the apple surrounded by the aroma of cinnamon, as your captivated by this you get the flavour of the cheddar cheese slowly mingling within
  • The ice cream added a great creamy component to the dish
  • My complaints would be that – it wasn’t big enough, the cheese wasn’t equally distributed throughout the dish

Chocolate terrine with Irish cream sabayon and crunchy honeycomb
  • 6.5/10
  • This was a disappointment
  • The chocolate terrine tasted just like a chocolate ganache, I wish it contained something interesting like some cayenne to add a spice to it
  • The Irish cream sabayon just tasted like froth, the flavour of the Irish cream didn’t come through
  • The crunchy honeycomb wasn’t crunchy it was hard and impossible to cut through, maybe it was stale? – but it was a good attempt at adding a crunchy component (if it had been made properly I would have given it a higher rating)
  • Overall, the execution of this dish was poor – needs improvement

Greek yogurt sorbet, honey and salted pistachios
  • 7.5/10
  • The Greek yogurt would be the perfect dessert if you wanted a light finish
  • The salted pistachios really made this dishes flavour pop
  • It’s a good take on Greek yogurt and honey
Summary: Overall, a great restaurant. Solid execution of dishes. The flavours were good and the cooking of the proteins was close to perfect. Great dishes in appetizers, entrees and desserts.
