What I ate:

Chocolate Caramel Brownie Cake – chocolate pecan brownie, caramel cremeux, caramel Bavarian, hints of fleur de sel
  • 8.5/10
  • This dessert was so good – it was not too sweet or dense, it was just right
  • The creaminess went really well with the pecan brownie
  • The hints of salt was the perfect contrast to the chocolate flavours
  • This is definitely a dessert I would order again
Ham and Cheese Sandwich
  • 7.5/10
  • This was a little on the saltier side
  • The sandwich was grilled to a crunchy perfection
  • The ratio of ham to cheese was good but the amount of Dijon mustard was too much that it overwhelmed the overall flavour

Herb and Asiago Scones
  • 7/10
  • I would have given this a higher rating if it was warm or slightly heated up
  • There was a good amount of Asiago cheese which made it nice and savoury
  • The scones were a little on the denser side, I would have preferred it to be a little lighter or fluffier

“Pep Me Up” – A 70% cocoa dark hot chocolate with fresh peppermint and a kick of chartreuse served with a minty chocolate ganache bar
  • I was hesitant on which hot chocolate to get so they gave me a sample of this hot chocolate and I thoroughly enjoyed it
  • At first you get the kick of chartreuse and then the dark hot chocolate coats your mouth
  • The fresh peppermint is a lovely aftertaste
  • It was also rich but not too sweet

“This is Nuts” – Hot chocolate (55% cocoa) infused with caramelized hazelnut and almond butter. Served with our “hasselnut” cream and financier sandwich
  • 7.5/10
  • This hot chocolate was a little sweet for my liking
  • It tasted just as the server described, like Ferrero Rocher
  • There were bits of hazelnut throughout the drink and gave the drink a nice crunch
  • Right before you drink it you can smell the fragrance of hazelnut, then as you take a sip you get the flavour of milk chocolate
  • It was really smooth and just the right temperature
  • The financier sandwich was nice and crunchy and the middle was creamy, it was heavy on the hazelnut flavour which matched the hot chocolate well, but again a little too sweet for me
  • I’m a dark chocolate kind of person

Summary: Thomas Haas is a terrific place for decadent desserts and savoury goods. The service is great, designs are charming and atmosphere is relaxing. Overall I would recommend it. It’s one of the best bakeries in town.
