What I ate:

For Just the Soft Serve itself with no toppings
  • 8.5/10
  • Just the soft serve itself, is great
  • It’s soft and silky, just the perfect amount of sweetness
  • The flavour of the Avalon milk really comes out, you can tell it’s different from the usual milk bases that other places use
  • The milk flavour is very strong and I enjoyed it

Honeycomb Peak – signature swirl topped with a piece of local honeycomb on top
  • 7.5/10
  • The Honeycomb topping was kind of disappointing
  • It was visually very appealing but the sweetness of it was slightly overpowering
  • I enjoyed the cornflakes with honey on the bottom but sometimes it would get too sweet
  • Also I found that the honeycomb gave the entire dessert a strange chew that tasted somewhat like plastic after a while
  • But I understand the concept of the dessert – crunchiness from the flakes, sweetness from the honey but it needed some kind of flavour contrast
  • The reason I gave this one a 7.5 was because the honeycomb concept is very appealing

Mudslide – signature twist topped with TimTam flakes and chocolate syrup
  • 7/10
  • The Tim Tam flakes were nice and crunchy
  • But I found the overall dessert to be too sweet and it over masked the beautiful soft serve itself
  • The chocolate syrup tasted very generic and there was too much of it

Sunrise in California – sweet and sour Yuzu marmalade on our signature twist
  • 7/10
  • I found the Yuzu marmalade to be quite sweet as well
  • I could really taste the sour which was disappointing
  • I enjoyed the bits of Yuzu in it to give it a textural contrast but there was also a slight bitterness from the Yuzu
  • It was lacking something to contrast the sweetness, maybe if the sour was more prominent it would have been better
  • Or if there was some other texture it would have been better

Green Forest – Organic Premium Matcha powder, sweet red beans and condensed milk on top
  • 8/10
  • If you aren’t a red bean lover you won’t enjoy this one but if you are, it’s like hitting the jackpot
  • The matcha powder was really enjoyable but I just wish they had sprinkled more because you couldn’t really taste it throughout the dessert, even when I had mixed it really thoroughly
  • The red beans were slightly too sweet and overcooked
  • The green tea flavour got lost after a while
  • The reason I gave it an 8 was because I loved the whole concept of this dessert (I’m a traditional kind of girl) but the ratio was lacking and needs to be improved
Things to Improve on: Controlling the sweetness so that the flavour of the actual ice cream won’t be masked
Summary: Soft Peaks ice Cream does their soft serve right. They use Avalon milk and the textures are great. But the toppings need to be worked on in order for the level of the sweetness to be controlled. Overall I would recommend at least one visit just to give it a chance (see if it’s to your liking) and also to say you’ve been there (Instagram it!).
