Homer St. Café and bar

Date Visited: January 10 2015
Address: 898 Homer Street
Website: homerstreetcafebar.com
Type of Restaurant: Chicken, pacific northwest, coffee, rotisserie
Price Range: $$$
Ambiance (out of five)/Setting/Design/service: 4/5 – service was quick and attentive, design was old school and rustic (somewhat French)
Overall: 6.5/10
(1-4: will never come back, 5: pass (I’m okay with a tinier morsel), 6: acceptable, 7: okay, 8: good, 9: Wow! Please enlarge my morsel. 10: Perfection. I could eat a morsel of this every day!)
Will come back? No
What I ate:
Complimentary Focaccia
  • Too many salt crystals and not warmed up
Half Chicken served with pee wee potatoes and chicken jus
  • 7/10
  • The crispiness of the skin was good and it packed great flavour
  • I was disappointed with the juiciness of the chicken (could have been juicier)
  • A bit on the saltier side
  • The chicken jus had a very strong wine taste and I think didn’t add much to the overall flavour of the chicken when utilized
  • The pee wee potatoes were okay, nothing special (could have been better seasoned)
Chicken wings
  • 6.5/10
  • Flavours were similar to those of the chicken
  • Was on the drier and saltier side
Sautéed crimini mushrooms, fried sage
  • 6.5/10
  • Too salty for my liking, masked the true flavour of the mushrooms
  • Could have added more sage and herbs to better enhance the flavours of the mushrooms
Summary: Chicken wasn’t at great as I thought it would be. There is improvement to be made. Hope to come back and try some of their other dishes!
