Hikari Cafe

Date Visited: March 25 2015

Address: 103-5701 Granville St Vancouver, BC V6M4J7

Type of Restaurant: Café, Japanese, Desserts, Sandwiches

Price Range: $

Ambiance (out of five)/Setting/Design/service: 4/5 – other than the weird smell coming from the restaurant the décor was really cute, the space is kind of on the smaller size only 4 tables of 4

Recommended: Omelet Rice

Overall: 7/10

(1-4: will never come back, 5: pass (I’m okay with a tinier morsel), 6: acceptable, 7: okay, 8: good, 9: Wow! Please enlarge my morsel. 10: Perfection. I could eat a morsel of this every day!)

Will come back? Maybe – because it’s close

What I ate:

Omelet Rice

  • 8/10
  • Solid Omelet Rice
  • When this came to the table, I was like wow looks legit and pretty good portion size
  • The fried rice itself had a strong ketchup flavour to it but I didn’t mind
  • There was a good amount of chicken and veggies inside
  • It came out piping hot
  • The egg wrapped around the rice could have been softer but it matched the fried rice well

Spicy Salmon Roll

  • 7/10
  • This roll was on the expensive side
  • But the salmon used inside was pretty fresh and were pretty big pieces
  • The vegetables used in it were fresh and added a refreshing crunch
  • The spicy sauce could have been better though – a bit more flavourful

Strawberry Parfait

  • 6/10
  • This was disappointing
  • All that was in there was ice cream, whipping cream, strawberries, chocolate cereal
  • There was nothing special to it
  • The cereal added a nice crunch to it

Summary: Omelet Rice was good but some of the prices could be on the steeper side. I want to try some of the other desserts and curry.
