(1-4: will never come back, 5: pass (I’m okay with a tinier morsel), 6: acceptable, 7: okay, 8: good, 9: Wow! Please enlarge my morsel. 10: Perfection. I could eat a morsel of this every day!)
Will come back? It’s a bit out of the way but maybe
What I ate:
Black Out – layers of chocolate ice cream, gooey hot fudge and chocolate chips. Topped with chocolate whipped cream, dark chocolate sprinkles and crowned with a chocolate wafer cookie
  • 7/10
  • I overestimated my love for chocolate. Fact – I do love chocolate. But unfortunately not enough to enjoy this dessert
  • The gooey hot fudge was too sweet for me and there was too much of it. But the ice cream itself was not too sweet
  • If there was some other textural element to it or flavour element it would have been great
  • But visually it was very appealing
Banoffee Split – vanilla and coffee crunch ice cream alongside a split banana and topped with hot fudge and butterscotch. Garnished with whipped cream and toffee chips
  • 8.5/10
  • This was the perfect dessert basically.
  • It’s every kids dream come true
  • It’s hard to find banana splits these days and when you do find one on the menu order it!
  • The coffee crunch ice cream and vanilla ice cream was just the right sweetness. The banana allowed for a different texture and went really well with the entire dessert – without the banana it wouldn’t have been as good
  • The best part was the toffee chips – they provided a nice crunch and a different flavour component
  • The hot fudge and butterscotch was not overpowering and still allowed with the coffee and banana to shine through
  • The whipped cream provided a nice light and airiness
Florida cow (orange) Float – pop shoppe pop topped with vanilla ice cream
  • 8/10
  • The orange float was not too sweet
  • The vanilla ice cream really made the float very creamy and balanced out the orange soda nicely
  • I think the orange flavour could have been a bit more prominent though
Hot Chocolate Festival Special à “I went all hot and cold” – Have the best of both worlds. Rich, dark hot chocolate made with Avalon Dairy milk and a scoop of Birchwood Dairy vanilla ice cream on the rim. Float it for a delicious combo or eat the ice cream with the accompanying mini sugar cone
  • 6/10
  • To be honest, I used the excuse of it being hot chocolate festival to come all the way out to Burnaby. I was really looking forward to this
  • Visually it was pretty good – the ice cream dangling on the side of the cup with rich hot chocolate inside, I mean how could it disappoint
  • Unfortunately it did. The hot chocolate itself was too sweet and tasted like it came from the box. It had a generic taste to it.
  • I would say that putting the ice cream into the hot chocolate is the best way to lighten up the entire hot chocolate and make it more creamy
  • The cone that came with it was not very crunchy and wasn’t very satisfying
Things to Improve on: Sweetness and balance of some desserts
Summary: This place really brings you back. It feels as if you are time traveling and went back to the days when life was simpler. No electronics, no internet, no worries. The desserts are massive and they really satisfy your sweet tooth. I think it’s a great alternative to other ice cream places you find out in Vancouver. It’s old fashioned and the service is friendly. Overall, I would recommend it.
