Cham Mani

Date Visited: February 16 2015

Address: 529 West Pender St  Vancouver, BC V6B1V5

Type of Restaurant: Korean

Price Range: $

Overall: 7/10

(1-4: will never come back, 5: pass (I’m okay with a tinier morsel), 6: acceptable, 7: okay, 8: good, 9: Wow! Please enlarge my morsel. 10: Perfection. I could eat a morsel of this every day!)

Will come back? Maybe – for a cheap and homey Korean meal

What I ate:

Combo E

  • 7.5/10
  • Beware – it’s on the spicier side
  • The ramyun was slightly overcooked
  • The dok/tok (rice cakes) were cooked perfectly, not too soft yet not too hard but there wasn’t enough of it for the price
  • The sauce was on the waterier side, could have had stronger flavours of chilli and better balance of sweet and salty
  • One of the better topokki’s in Vancouver but not as good as the ones out in Burquitlam

  • 6/10
  • The kimbap rice was not very good, it fell apart easily
  • But there were an apt amount of filling on the inside
  • Unfortunately it wasn’t uniformly cut, it wasn’t all the same size
  • The flavours could have also been better, everything was a bit mild

  • 6.5/10
  • The kimchijigae was on the more sour side
  • Luckily it wasn’t too spicy
  • The soup was definitely not well developed and tasted very watery
  • Wished there was more depth to the soup

Things to Improve on: Overall flavours

Summary: The food at Cham Mani is cheap and pretty tasty for the price. The service is prompt. Overall food was okay, very homey style.
