Chatime Sampling Event by ChineseBites

Disclosure: I was invited by ChineseBites to sample Chatime’s drinks but my opinions have not been influenced by ChineseBites or the restaurant and are my own.
Chatime – Good Tea Good Time – is the number 1 bubble tea brand in the world with over 1200 locations, so I had to come in and try their bubble teas. The teas they use are high quality tea leaves and come from Taiwan from their own tea farm. All the advanced machinery they use is to ensure that they produce the most high quality fresh tea. The machine controls the temperature, proportion and timing to guarantee that the consistency is the same at all 1200 branches.

What I drank:

Taiwan Mango QQ (Regular ice and sugar)
  • 7/10
  • The regular was a little bit on the sweet side for me
  • The concept of QQ is interesting because it involves the addition of pearls and coconut jelly
  • The chewiness of the pearls and the nice bite of the jelly was a great addition to the drink. They contrasted each other well. (The pearls are also thrown out every few hours which helps guarantee the quality of the ingredients)
Matcha tea Latte (70% ice and 80% sugar)
  • 7.5/10
  • Since I am a matcha lover, I had to get the matcha tea latte
  • The drink itself looks very pretty because of its ombreness
  • The matcha itself could be tasted and the concept of a latte followed through. The matcha wasn’t so strong because it was balanced by the milk on the bottom

Brown Rice Green Milk Tea with additional pudding (No ice, 30% sugar)
  • 7/10
  • I thought this drink was quite good and my decision of 30% sugar was just right. I really enjoy the concept of choosing the amount of ice and sugar that goes into a drink.
  • There was a hint of brown rice which gave off a caramelized and intense flavour that’s somewhat hard to explain
  • The addition of pudding added an interesting texture which I enjoyed because I personally like pudding. Their pudding is not broken up into pieces which I enjoyed
Japanese Genmaicha (regular ice and sugar)
  • 7.5/10
  • This was the most fragrant tea I tasted at Chatime
  • It had that flavour of toasted rice which added a caramel flavour along with a hint of smokiness
  • It wasn’t too sweet
  • The tea flavour was prominent and somewhat addicting

Summary: Chatime has a great selection of drinks at a decent price. All their sweetness and amounts of ice are customizable, making it very friendly to all types of customers. They also come in different sizes which is great for people who can’t finish a full bubble tea. All in all, decent place for bubble tea with convenient locations.
