Facing East Taiwanese Restaurant

Date Visited: March 15 2015
Address: 1075 Bellevue Way NE Ste B2 Bellevue, WA 98004
Website: http://litadesign.wix.com/facingeastrestaurant
Type of Restaurant: Taiwanese, Chinese
Price Range: $
Ambiance (out of five)/Setting/Design/service: 4.5/ – service was really fast and accommodating, the design was better and more sanitary than the typical Chinese restaurant
Recommended: Bubble tea, Taiwanese pork burger
Overall: 8/10
(1-4: will never come back, 5: pass (I’m okay with a tinier morsel), 6: acceptable, 7: okay, 8: good, 9: Wow! Please enlarge my morsel. 10: Perfection. I could eat a morsel of this every day!)
Will come back? If I’m in the area, yes
What I ate:
Bubble Tea
  • 8.5/10
  • Strong tea flavour which is great
  • the pearls were just right
  • Not too sweet
  • There was no powder taste which is something that is key when drinking bubble tea
  • But the size of the bubble tea was disappointing – not used to half of the usual
Taiwanese pork burger
  • 8.5/10
  • The pork inside was cooked to melty perfection BUT it would have been better if it wasn’t cut up into small chunks instead of an entire slab
  • Also if left for too long the bun would soak up all the flavours
  • The peanuts and the sour veggies added a nice crunch and texture to the entire bun
  • The flavours of sweet and salty and sour were all very well balanced
Five spiced fried chicken with basil
  • 8/10
  • Really crunchy – batter was light
  • Not too heavily salted – just the right amount of spices on top
  • I wish there was more basil
  • I could tell the chicken was really fresh because there was no dark circle surrounding the chicken – but I wish it was slightly juicier ( a bit too dry)
  • Great portion wise
Spiced pork stew over rice (large)
  • 8/10
  • The pork was not too fatty and not too lean – just right
  • It was also not too salty – had a sweetness to it which I really enjoyed
  • If it had a smidge more sauce to accompany the amount of rice it would have made a better ratio
Braised pork stew over rice
  • 9/10
  • This was amazing
  • The braised pork was braised to perfection
  • It literally melted in your mouth but wasn’t too rich
  • The flavour was just right
  • When accompanied with rice it was like heaven in your mouth (I literally wanted to sing Hallelujah when I took the first bite but was too self-conscious)
Sakura shrimp fried rice
  • 8/10
  • This fried rice was interesting and very flavourful
  • The sakura shrimp not only added a nice level of savouriness to it but it also added chewiness and a crunch
Pickled cucumber
  • 7/10
  • The cucumber could have been crunchier
  • It was nicely pickled – not too sour but a little too sweet
Braised seaweed, dry tofu and hardboiled egg
  • 7.5/10
  • The portion was great for the price and variety
  • The hardboiled egg had fully soaked up the flavour of the sauce
  • The seaweed was crisp
  • The dry tofu fell apart too easily
Summary: Great Taiwanese food with good drinks. All the food were pretty good and well flavoured. I like it.
