Background: This place has been hyped up by the internet and by friends so much that I had to come and try it. My first attempt to come was last year and it was a failure which resulted in us going to the Cheesecake factory. This time, I was determined.
But alas, determination does not win all. We got there around 5:30pm and were told the wait was going to be 2.5 hours. So we opted for takeout which took like 20 minutes to prepare
Overall: 7/10
(1-4: will never come back, 5: pass (I’m okay with a tinier morsel), 6: acceptable, 7: okay, 8: good, 9: Wow! Please enlarge my morsel. 10: Perfection. I could eat a morsel of this every day!)
Will come back? No
What I ate:
Vegetarian Dumplings
  • 7/10
  • Tasted okay – fillings were fine but nothing special
  • The skin of the dumpling was pretty good though
Pork XiaolongBao
  • 7/10
  • Not too salty which was good
  • Good amount of soup but there could’ve been more
  • The skin on the side was great but the top skin was a little thick and dry
  • The filling was a bit heavy on the ginger side
Noodles with Sesame Sauce
  • 5.5/10
  • The portions were way too small for the price
  • The noodles were cooked okay – not too overcooked
  • The sesame sauce was a HUGE disappointment (that’s right I used all caps for that word) – it lacked sesame flavour and tasted strange (kind of bitter)
  • It was also not savoury enough
Shrimp Fried Rice
  • 7.5/10
  • The shrimp fried rice was the best part of the meal which is disappointing
  • The shrimp was slightly over cooked but tasted pretty fresh
  • The egg was also somewhat overcooked
  • The rice was fried really nicely though
  • The ratio of meat to rice was really good though
Things to Improve on: Noodles with sesame sauce
Summary: It’s not what it was all hyped up to be. Please lower your expectations before trying it. The wait is definitely not worth it.
