Little Babycakes

Date Visited: April 4 2015
What I ate:
Red Pearl – Red velvet with cream cheese frosting
  • 7/10
  • The red velvet was not too sweet
  • But lacked chocolate flavour, it had a little bite too much baking powder flavour
  • The cream cheese frosting was just enough to balance off the red velvet cupcake
Original – vanilla base with cream cheese frosting
  • 7/10
  • Nothing special, nice and stable regular cupcake
Coconut Paradise – Blue coconut frosting sprinkled with real coconut bits
  • 6.5/10
  • Could have done with more coconut and a different cupcake than the original one to really emphasis the coconut
Double Fudge – premium dark chocolate base finished with dark chocolate frosting
  • 8/10
  • The double fudge was one of the better ones
  • Could really taste the dark chocolate base and frosting and it wasn’t too rich or to sweet
White Panda – chocolate base topped with premium white chocolate frosting
  • 7/10
  • A little dense for my liking
  • The white chocolate was a little too sweet
Redbean matcha – Matcha frosting with Japanese red beans
  • 8.5/10
  • I liked this one a lot because I am a hard-core matcha fan
  • The matcha was intense enough for my liking
  • But the red bean on top was a little overcooked, could’ve been more al dente
Address: Visited when it was at Holt Renfrew usual location at 8700 McKim Way Richmond, BC V6X3Z7
Type of Restaurant: Bakery Dessert
Price Range: $$
Recommended: Redbean Matcha
Overall: 7/10
Will come back? No
Summary: The babycakes were really cute. Some of the flavours like redbean matcha and double fudge were quite nice but others were just regular cupcakes. The textures were also quite soft and fluffy, not too dense and not too sweet.
