French Made Baking

Date Visited: April 30 2015
What I ate:
Chocolate Croissant
  • 6/10
  • Not flaky and buttery enough
  • The chocolate was too sweet and wasn’t well dispersed throughout the croissant
Processed with VSCOcam with g3 preset
Cassis Macaron: black currant white chocolate ganache
  • 7/10
  • The outside was crispy and inside very chewy
  • The black currant flavour was quite sour
L’Anglais Macaron: Earl grey tea infused milk chocolate ganache
  • 7/10
  • The earl grey tea flavour was quite strong so if you like earl grey then you should get this one
  • But the milk chocolate ganache made this macaron way too sweet
LE Breton: Salted caramel buttercream and fleur de sel
  • 6/10
  • Could not taste the salted caramel at all
  • Actually it was really sweet instead of salty
  • There was a really strong almond flavour instead which is basically the original flavour of the macaron
L’Oriental: rose and litchi white chocolate ganache
  • 6.5/10
  • Could not taste the rose flavour AT ALL, only a very strong litchi flavour
  • Again this macaron was too sweet
Pistache: Roasted pistachio white chocolate ganache
  • 6/10
  • Couldn’t taste pistachio flavour, only tasted almonds
  • Too sweet again
Tea: Green tea
  • 7/10
  • The tea flavour was quite strong but again it was very sweet
  • Fragrant macaron
Address: 81 Kingsway, Metro Vancouver
Type of Restaurant: desserts, bakery, café, coffee
Price Range: $$
Overall: 7/10
Will come back? No
Things to Improve on: Control of the sweetness
Summary: The macarons texture was quite nice – the outside was crisp and the inside was chewy. But half of the macarons I had were way too sweet yet the other half were quite fragrant. French Made Baking is quite inconsistent with their sweets.
