Café Joie

Date Visited: July 3 2015

What I ate:

  • 7.5/10
  • Not bad – the JJ beans coffee was quite good
  • For a latte it was on the strong side, could have been more milk
  • Most of the points I gave were for the cute drawing on top

Strawberry Waffle – strawberries, sliced almonds, pecans, whip cream, vanilla ice cream

  • 6/10
  • This was visually – very pretty and cute
  • But the waffle itself was disappointing – not my style of waffle
  • It was very soft and airy – but it had to crunchiness to it, I prefer my waffles crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside
  • I liked that it was served warm
  • The combination of toppings was not overly sweet but it tasted all very processed
  • Nothing was homemade – the ice cream was from the box and the whip cream was from the can – I wish the pecans were toasted to add a bit more fragrance and crunch to it

Address: 110-6125 Sussex Avenue, Burnaby

Type of Restaurant: coffee, dessert

Price Range: $$

Overall: 7/10

Will come back? Maybe – for a cute coffee but not for their desserts

Summary: Very cute and relaxed café with late hours, the desserts and drinks are cute but the quality is just subpar
