Ramen Koika

Date Visited: May 19 2015

What I ate:

King’s Ramen (chicken broth) – carrot, cabbage, mushroom, green onion, bean sprouts, shredded pork, seaweed, bamboo shoot, soft boiled egg

  • 6.5/10
  • The broth lacked depth
  • The vast amount of toppings was overwhelming
  • The shredded pork was very dry and lacked flavour

Koika ramen burger – fresh homemade noodle buns, cabbage, fresh 100% certified Angus beef patty, green lettuce, onion, special burger sauce on top

  • 4.5/10
  • This was VERY disappointing
  • The “bun” was not crispy at all and was chewy and unappealing
  • The special burger sauce was too overwhelming and became the only taste that I could taste
  • The angus beef patty lacked fat and was really dry

Takoyaki balls – deep fried flour ball, chunk octopus

  • 7/10
  • It was really hot
  • Too much sauce for me
  • Good amount of octopus but too much flour and too dense
  • Could have been crispier on the outside

Tonkatsu – deep fried pork sirloin with steamed rice and cabbage spring mix

  • 5/10
  • The deep fried pork was really dry and hard to eat after a few bites
  • The sauce didn’t help in making it easier to digest

Address: 1231 Davie St Vancouver, BC

Website: http://ramenkoika.com/

Type of Restaurant:  Ramen, Noodles, Rice, Japanese, Korean, Fusion

Price Range: $$

Overall: 5.75/10

Will come back? No

Summary: Ramen was definitely not on the Vancouver standard. The Ramen Burger, which I was so looking forward to, was a definite let down. Overall I was let down and won’t be coming back unless improvements are made
