What I ate:

Sorry for the lack of pictures. Family dinners are always hard for bloggers to take pictures without feeling awkward in front of 10 other people. Sorry!

Rock Cod with Sweet and sour sauce

  • 7/10
  • The rock cod was very crunchy and crisp
  • The fish itself was not overcooked
  • But the sweet and sour sauce was a bit too bland and lacked depth

Salty Egg Yolk Pumpkin

  • 6/10
  • The pumpkin was well coated in salty egg yolk
  • But the pumpkin itself wasn’t sweet enough to really help bring out the contrast between the salty egg yolk and pumpkin

Crispy rice with sea cucumber

  • 6/10
  • The crispy rice was not the traditional kind (I don’t think any restaurant makes the traditional kind anymore)
  • The sea cucumber was cut so small it was hard to distribute it among so many people
  • It wasn’t a good crispy rice

Steamed buns with pork and soup

  • 7/10
  • The steamed buns had good flavour – it was rich and savoury
  • But the skin was a bit too think for my liking
  • There was a good amount of filling

Hang Zhou Beggar chicken (you must pre-order this one)

  • 6/10
  • This was a real looker but not a good dish
  • The chicken was dry and lacked the flavour you would expect from the leaves
  • The rice on the inside was way too mushy and although it did have a lot of ingredients it lacked flavour and the right texture

Red Bean paste cook pie

  • 7/10
  • The outside was really crunchy which was really good
  • And the red bean was not too sweet
  • But it lacked the chewiness it should have from the glutinous rice flour

Dong bo Rou

  • 7/10
  • I could hear the manager continually promoting the Dong bo Rou to almost every single table so we decided to get it too
  • The texture of the fat was so melt in your mouth good
  • It was really well braised
  • But the flavours were lacking

Salty Salmon Rice

  • 5/10
  • This one lives up to its name
  • It was really salty
  • The rice didn’t have enough wok fire, it lacked that umph
  • It also needed more vegetables to balance off the salty salmon

Scramble egg white shrimp scallop

  • 7/10
  • the scramble eggs were really soft
  • shrimp and scallops were cooked properly
  • Standard scramble egg white shrimp scallop dish

Complimentary Dessert – Coconut pastry type of thing

  • 5/10
  • A lot of coconut and sesame
  • But the pastry surrounding it was flaky, TOO FLAKY and dry, no butteriness at all
  • It was also on the sweeter side

Address: 100-8291 Ackroyd Road, Richmond

Type of Restaurant: Shanghai, Chinese, Asian

Price Range: $$$

Overall: 6.5/10

Will come back? No

Summary: Okay Shanghai restaurant but I think they could do better. The service was not that great. The food was mediocre at best, nothing blew me out of the ball park. Overall I’d pass if I had to go again.
