What I ate:

The Gastown classic

two eggs any style, house-made maple beans, toast, yukon nugget potato hash, with smoked ham

  • 6.5/10
  • There were a lot of yukon nugget potato hash
  • The house made maple beans – lacked smokiness
  • The toast was way too dry for my liking and the smoked ham was too dry as well

The catch 122

poached eggs, house-smoked and cured wild salmon, dill creme fraîche, arugula, croissant, yukon nugget potato hash

  • 7/10
  • The cured wild salmon – were quite smokey but there wasn’t enough of it distributed throughout
  • I could not really taste the dill crème fraiche
  • The eggs were perfectly cooked though

Eggs benedict

poached eggs, english muffin, hollandaise sauce, yukon nugget potato hash, with smoked ham

  • 7/10
  • Not bad – the english muffin could have been more toasted
  • The hollandaise sauce was very buttery but lacked something that I can’t put my mind on
  • The smoked ham  didn’t add much flavour to it

Address: 122 W Hastings St, Vancouver, BC V6B 1G8

Website: http://www.catch122.ca/

Type of restaurant: Canadian, Brunch

Service: Only problem was that they didn’t refill our water during the brunch and it was hard to get our waiters attention for the bill even though there were only around 5 tables

Overall: 7/10

Will come back: No – there are other brunch places, especially in this area, that would be better

Summary: Overall, Catch 122 brunch was a disappointment. I had high hopes for it, but I was let down. The brunch was nothing special and nothing was specially well done. Flavours were okay and portions were okay but it’s definitely not something I would go out again for.

  1. I had the same benny last year and thought it was a great deal at $12. So sad to hear it’s either not consistent or this place has gone down in the last little while 😦
