Coffee Monday @ Fondway Cafe

Another Monday, another Coffee. Today we ventured off to Fondway Coffee Shop right next to metrotown station. It’s literally right next to the metrotown station so try not to get lost. When we walked in there was only one other group inside, so it was quite empty. But considering it was a Monday, it made sense.

We ordered and got these cute little clips as our numbers for the food.

The interior was quite cute. It was a mix and match of different pieces. The tables didn’t match and it felt all very chill and at the same time kind of artsy. They had old luggage’s and different kinds of chairs (some comfortable and some just stools).

On to the food.

My Okinawa tea latte came up first and my first impression was that it tasted very bland. It had a slight sweetness and a slight caffeine taste but kind of bland. It was nothing distinctive and I would not order it again.

Next up came my clam chowder which was the daily special of the day. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from this dish, especially since it was from a coffee shop and I proved myself right. This tasted like it came from the can, maybe with a few added clams but very few. It was watery and lacked flavour. It needed more fillings. It mostly consisted of potatoes.

The croissants sandwich was the daily sandwich. It consisted of ham, apple, cheese and a lot of lettuce. It was grilled right before served. The portion for the price was pretty good.

Finally, the coffee with grass jelly, according to my friend was just okay. It wasn’t as strong as I would’ve liked but the combination was interesting.

Overall: 5.5/10 – I was unimpressed by their food and drinks overall. The décor looked cute and the table I was sitting at was cool because you could twist the table height up and down but it was kind of wobbly. For long periods of time, the only tables that would be good for laptops would be the table in the middle and the table connected to the wall. What’s good is that the place isn’t very busy (during weekdays at least). We were there even at the beginning of lunch, and there weren’t many people. It could be a good place to grab your laptop and study/work for a while with no disturbances and an okay affordable drink. Also I was looking forward to trying some of their cakes or at least some of their pastries but they had a very limited amount available. I understand that it was still pretty early in the day but there should be more options available. I was extremely underwhelmed with the selection.
