I’ve been wanting to go to Nicli Antica Pizzeria for a while now, especially after I heard about their happy hour special (half off Margherita pizzas from 3-5).
We walked in at around 4 and there weren’t many people inside which is to be expected on a Thursday afternoon.
We sat down and asked if they had a happy hour special (the waiter looked somewhat surprised when I asked about the happy hour special and then just told me its 50% off margherita pizzas). We ordered the margherita and the cavolo nero e funghi.
First things first, the crust, I checked the bottom and it looked beautiful which is great. We picked up our forks and knives and proceeded to cut the crust. But it turned out to be a more difficult task than ever. It was very difficult to cut the crust and by the end of the meal I had picked it up with my hands and started to chow down on it. I’m not sure if it was the knives that were giving me the hard time or if the crust itself was just way to chewy, but the inability to cut into my pizza was a big turn off and left me somewhat frustrated.
The dough tasted pretty chewy but not too chewy. It had a nice charred flavour to it.
The Margherita pizza was pretty good. The sauce was nicely flavoured and a good amount of cheese. Rating: 7/10
The Cavolo Nero E Funghi consisted on an interesting combo of kale and mushrooms. I thought there could have been more mushrooms on top but other than that not bad. Rating: 7/10
Overall: I thought that the pizza was not bad. The flavours were pretty on point but I prefer pizzas with a bit more toppings than what they provided. The crust itself was nice and chewy but lacked that crunch that I always look for. Overall rating: 6.5/10
